Nine Year old Easton Hamel and Dells Missy 'Skip'
with a winning pattern in Youth Showmanship
at the 2008 Gogebic County Fair
Easton and Good Resource, a 1998 AQHA Sorrel Gelding by Good Asset, show great form in executing a 360 degree turn during their 13 & under Youth Horsemanship class. August 2008.Easton and Regis went on to the U.P.Championship Show in September of 2008, winning RESERVE CHAMPION in Youth Showmanship and placing in the top ten in youth horsemanship and youth western pleasure. These youth classes at the Championship Show were ages 18 and under and Easton was the youngest competitor in all!

Nineteen year old Brittany Bennetts has been riding and showing for 11 years! A 2008 graduate of A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer, MI, Brittany started college at Michigan State University in East Lansing the end of August.
Brittany has had a very successful youth show career, with her current show horse CLW Legends Legacy, and with her first horse TEF Impressive Lace. A mainstay of our show team since 2000, Brittany has competed at the All American Quarter Horse Congress on the UPQHA Youth Team 3 years running, earned many, many AQHA points in at least 7 different events, was our county's 4-Her of the Year in the Horse program several years, won too many high points, year end awards, and AQHA All-Arounds to mention, and in 2008 was a NATIONAL AQHA SCHOLARSHIP WINNER!
Congratulations Brittany on a very successful and fruitful youth career. You have inspired many of our younger students!
Watch for Brittany and 'Leg's in 2009 in the amateur classes. Brittany has schooled her horses at home on her own for several years now and has proved that early lessons at Spring Valley Ranch are not forgotten.
NEWS FLASH! BRITTANY AND LEGS WON AMATUER WESTERN PLEASURE AT BRITTANY'S VERY FIRST SHOW AS AN AMATEUR! They will hopefully compete at one more AQHA circuit this summer and our County Fair before Brittany heads back to MSU for her sophomore year.

They were UNDEFEATED!

Great Horses and Riders From Past Years
Lane Passuello and Macriffic Mandy, 2004 AQHA filly
In 2005 Lane Passuello and Mandy showed in Youth Mares 2 & Under, earning an AQHA Grand Championship, UPQHA Year End Award, and QUALIFIED FOR 2006 AQHA YOUTH WORLD SHOW!
Lane Passuello and SlowSpeed Getaway
In 2006 Lane showed SlowSpeedGetaway, a 2002 AQHA mare by Sonnys Speed Dee Man, in Novice Youth Western Pleasure and Youth 14-18 Western Pleasure. Doreen had trained 'Belle' for her owner Jim and Theresa Taylor of Ironwood when she was a yearling and two year old and showed placed with her at the UPQHA Fall Futurity Lunge Line Class in 2003. In 2004 Doreen and Belle showed very successfully in western pleasure and trail classes, and Terry showed Bell in showmanship, and western pleasure a few times. In the spring of 2006, Doreen bought Belle from the Taylor's as a pleasure show horse for Lane and the pair immediately began winning and placing in novice youth and 14-18 western pleasure at Quarter Horse shows.
Katherine Adams and Don't Question Sucess
Grand Champion Youth Gelding every time shown at AQHA shows except once! Qualified for AQHA Youth World Show!
Don't Question Sucess 'Quest' was bred by Doreen Passuello and born and raised at Spring Valley Ranch. He was by the Ranch's stallion Isle Bee A Sucess, son of AQHA Champion Swift Sucess. Quest's dam was the great mare, Dana's Starflash, owned by Spring Valley Ranch, trained by Doreen and showed by Doreen and many, many of her sutdents in nearly every event possible! Dana had AQHA points in working hunter and hunter hack and was the dam of
5 AQHA point earners, including two World Qualifiers and one ROM Performance Winner.
Jennifer Angus and Ima Flashy Sucess
Jenny and 'Flash' showed on the Spring Valley Ranch Show Team through out Jenny's 14 through 18 youth years and into her amateur years. They successfully competed in showmanship, halter, western pleasure, trail and occasionally horsemanship, earning numerous AQHA points, a Performance ROM, and many UPQHA Year End Awards. Jenny and Flash represented UPQHA on the 2001 NYATT Congress Team, the first of many of Spring Valley Ranch's students to show at Congress.
Jenny currently works in lower Michigan where she shows AQHA halter horses with her boyfriend (whom she met at a Quarter Horse Show in Escanaba, MI while showing with us) .
Jenny and her halter gelding 'Winron" placed 10th at the 2008 All American Quarter Horse Congress in the lImited Amateur Aged Gelding Class. CONGRATULATIONS JENNY!
Pictures of the horses below coming as soon as I can find them and get them to my computer!
Jayme Czerniak and Im Justa Sucess
'Justin' was purchased from Spring Valley Ranch at 10 days of age by Jayme's older sister Alicia. Justin was a stand-out from the day he was born. He was the first foal sired by SVR's new young stallion at the time, Isle Bee A Sucess, and out of the farm's great mare, Dana's Starflash.
Alicia showed Justin as a weanling and then gave him to her younger sister to show. Jayme and Justin had a fantastic show career, standing Youth Grand Champion Gelding many times and QUALIFIYING FOR THE AQHA YOUTH WORLD SHOW!

Ashley Alonen and An EarlyBird Sucess "Cassie'
Eighteen year old Ashley grew up on a dairy and beef farm, showing her cattle at the county fairs each year. Her horse experiences were limited to a just few rides on friends' horses though, until she started dating Lane, our youngest son. Ashley began riding my lesson horses and was a big help as a riding partner for one of my students the first fall (2007) when 11 year old Nicole was schooling for Congress. In the weeks before Congress, I came down with the flu for nearly a whole week and was not up to lessons or riding. The next week my Dad was taken to the hospital in Duluth, MN, 100 miles away, with serious heart problems. He underwent heart surgery the day before we left for Congress. While all this was going on, Ashley came out to the farm most nights with Nicole and the girls rode together. With Ashley's help and encouragement, Nicole went to her first Congress ready and confident!
In 2008 Ashley began to ride Regis, my Good Asset gelding that was my new lesson horse, with the idea of trying a few classes at the Gogebic County Fair. Ashley and Regis showed together in 14-18 Showmanship and 14-18 Horsemanship, winning blues in both classes and qualifying in both classes for the U.P. Championship Show. However, before the Championship show I sold Regis to one of my other students, 9 yr old Easton Hamel and Ashley was left without a show horse for the Championship Show.
In early May of this year, I suggested to Ashley that she look at 'Cassie' as a possible show horse. Cassie's dam had been Lane's first show horse and Lane had showed Cassie in AQHA Youth Halter as a yearling and two year old with great success. He also showed her in a couple of walk-trot classes and western pleasure at one AQHA show before I sold her to another youth. This young lady was now out of high school and Cassie was for sale. She hadn't had alot of show experience in the 4 years since I had sold her, but I thought Cassie still had what it took to be a competitive AQHA pleasure, showmanship, and youth halter horse. Her owner accepted Ashley's offer and the cute blue roan mare and Ashley became part of our 2009 show string.
Ashley and An EarlyBird Sucess 'Cassie'
Showing in halter, Cassie and Ashley have already picks up numerous class wins, including a 1st place and Grand Champion Youth Mare at the Upper Mchigan Gold Quarter Horse Circuit in June, their very first AQHA circuit together!.
'Don't stick out your tongue at the judge! He isn't done placing the class yet.
Ashley and Cassie relax in line-up after a Youth Western Pleasure at the Upper Michigan Gold Quarter Horse Circuit. The pair have several wins in western pleasure in just three week-ends of showing and, as of July 12th, are already qualified for the 2009 U.P.Championship Show in Mares Halter, Youth Showmanship and Youth Western Pleasure. Pretty good for a pair that's just been together for 2 months-especially when one is a newcomer to the horse show world and the other hasn't seen serious schooling or showing in 4 years!

Miah Marchello of Bessemer, MI began taking lessons at Spring Valley Ranch at 10 years old. The next summer Miah's goal was to buy Dells Missy 'Skip', the mare she rode for lessons. That plan didn't work out, but in December, 2006 Miah got an early Christmas present- 'Im Two Soxy', Skip's weanling filly!
It was a 'match made in heaven' right from the start. Miah has trained Sox almost entirely on her own, with lessons and advice from Doreen when needed. They have been very successful at shows from the time Sox was a yearling and this year are venturing out to more shows-with great success so far! Miah is getting help from one of our past students this summer, too, as Crystal Laabs is leasing Sox part-time. Crystal was one of our youth students 10 years ago and has experience training young horses and showing the AQHA circuits. Her riding time on Sox and assistance to Miah at shows is a valuable help.
13 year old Miah Marchello sets up Im Two Soxy during a showmanship pattern at a Upper Michigan Gold Quarter Horse Show.
Above: Miah and Sox compete in hunter under saddle in Escanaba, MI. The pair are already qualified for the 2009 U.P.Championship show in both English and western pleasure.
Right: Miah and Sox in western pleasure at UPHA Show in Escanaba on July 12th! Watch for this pair at upcoming shows and fairs!

Jacob Cadeau and SS Tiger Poco King
Congratulations to Jake and his parents on their very recent purchase of 'Buddy' a registered Quarter Horse gelding. Jake has been riding and showing SV Marina Del Rey, my lesson horse, for 2 years and now finally has the opportunity to own and work with his own horse. Buddy is a foundation bred Quarter Horse who is a great-grandson of Poco Bueno (one of the few horses left that can boast having Poco Bueno right on the front of the papers-and Buddy is still very young!) Jake and Buddy are now working to advance their skills together and hope to make their show debut at the Gogebic County Fair in August. We know the weeks will fly by until then.
Noel Chiapuzio and BMQ Bright Star, 'Rani'
Noel has been a member of her 4-H club's horse bowl team for several years. She has finally gotten the chance to put all that horse knowledge to good use, with her purchase of Rani this past April. Rani is a 'been there-done that' AQHA mare that is the perfect horse for nearly any level rider.
Noel and Rani have spent many, many hours on great trail rides this summer and are also working on their show ring techniques. Noel will be making her show ring debut at the Iron County Fair the end of July. Rani has tons of shows under her belt-she will take everything in stride!

Lexi Estola - Maple Ridge Miniature Horses, Hurley, WI
Thirteen year old Lexi Estola of Hurley, Wisconsin owns Maple Ridge Miniature Horses at her parents farm. Lexi is a dedicated young lady who spends tons of time with her horses, both the small ones and the large ones. Home-schooled, Lexi can find time during the day to work the minis on showmanship, trail courses, jumping and driving. She also owns a bay Quarter type mare that she is training for barrel racing.
Doreen travels to Maple Ridge Miniatures to give Lexi and her horses lessons as well as advice on proper showring techniques for the mini classes. While the fairs in our area currently do not offer mini classes, Lexi has done a jumping demonstration with one of her minis at the 2008 Iron County Fair. She is hoping to find some shows to compete in soon, where she will be ready for trail, jumping, driving, halter and showmanship with several different minis, including her stallion.
